ROCKET ADD-ONS, “from rocket world.”
but it could take until sometime after 2021 to hit roads.

Tesla Motors is named after Nikola Tesla

“With the Roadster, we’re going to do some things that are kind of unfair. We’re going to take some things from rocket world and put them on a car. […] Like I said, we can’t do the product unveil right here, but it’s going to do some things that are unfair. When do we do unveil the Roadster, let me just say that anyone who’s been waiting, they won’t be sorry. …
“Some of the things for Roadster, the tri-motor Plaid powertrain, we’re going to have that in Model S. So that’s one of the ingredients that’s needed for Roadster, is the Plaid powertrain, more advanced battery pack, that kind of thing.
– Elon Musk

A Plaid version of the Model S set a lap time on the Nurburgring in September 2019 of seven minutes and 23 seconds, 19 seconds faster than Porsche Taycan(ev)

“Rocket world” looks set to contribute in a big way. At the June 2018 shareholder meeting, Musk first announced a SpaceX options package. Musk later explained that it would involve 10 small thrusters placed around the car, designed to “dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking & cornering,” and perhaps “even allow a Tesla to fly.” The thrusters would use ultra high-pressure air from a COPV bottle taking up the two rear “kid seats.”

During the same podcast appearance, Musk said that “I think we should do Cybertruck first before Roadster,” hinting at a release sometime after late 2021 when the first Cybertrucks are expected to hit roads.
It’s a noticeable delay from the original unveiling when it was suggested the car would hit roads in 2020, but Musk explained that the Roadster depends on new technologies further down the line:

TESLA CYBERTRUCK PRE-ORDERS SOAR

Tesla Cybertruck pre-orders [$1k] have reached over 650,000, Electrek reported this week.
The truck, which starts at $39,900, is set to hit roads late next year.
Designed for superior strength and endurance, from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin to Tesla armor glass. … With a towing capability of 7, 10, or 14 thousand pounds [1, 2, or 3 motors], Cybertruck can perform in almost any extreme situation with ease. There is a video of a Cybertruck winning a tug-of-war with a Ford F150.
The Cybertruck is 232″ in length, 82″ in width and 75″ in height and can haul 3500 pounds in its 6.5-foot cargo bed.

TESLA BATTERY DAY: EVENT DATE FOR ONE OF FIRM’S ‘MOST EXCITING DAYS’ EVER

The event was alluded to back in the July 2019 conference call … as the coronavirus pandemic surged in the United States. Musk suggested in May the firm could hold a webcast in June, followed by an in-person event a few months later … Further reports in June claimed that CATL is set to start production on a battery that could support a car for up to 1.2 million miles. This battery could also last for up to 16 years. … May’s Reuters report stated that the new batteries could help Tesla sell electric cars at the same price or lower than their gas-powered equivalents.
It may not be as visually impressive as the Cybertruck unveiled last November, but Tesla’s upcoming battery day could help the average buyer decide to finally make the jump to electric.

Based on fleet data of current Tesla cars that have driven between 150,000 and 200,000 miles, the Tesla batteries have less than 15 percent degradation.

The guy who test drove the 2020 Tesla Roadster says Elon Musk’s boasts about it are ‘conservative’
“I know there’s some skepticism about the figures that Elon quoted… and I think can say without getting in trouble that those are actual figures. Those aren’t theoreticals. Those aren’t calculations. We’ve done those numbers. And I probably shouldn’t say that those numbers are even conservative, but they are.”

It’ll have a 620-mile range via a 200 kWh battery pack. The new Tesla Roadster will do zero to 60 in 1.9 seconds and it’ll blast through a quarter mile in 8.9 seconds, before reaching a top speed of over 250 MPH propelled by almost 7,400 lb-ft of torque.
“The point of doing this is just to give a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars,” Musk quipped. The Roadster is to serve as the final nail in the coffin for internal combustion vehicles.
All of the specs are based on prototypes for the base model, suggesting better numbers to come.

To keep it under control at those speeds, the Roadster will have an active rear wing, as well as an aggressive diffuser made of carbon fiber. The show car also features LED lights, a transparent removable roof panel, and a futuristic steering wheel straight out of Knight Rider 2021.

Folks that attended tonight’s event and put down a $50,000 deposit on the Roadster got a ride in the car, a 2+2 with extremely small rear seats, as well as a 200 kWh battery pack granting it a whopping 620 mile range.

It has a base price starting at $200,000, with a $50,000 reservation required. Of course you can go even further, as Tesla will offer a “Roadster Founders Series,” which will be a $250,000 affair.

Perhaps more impressive is how far it can go on a charge, an unprecedented 620 miles. That’s courtesy of an enormous 200 kilowatt-hour battery pack and twice the capacity of the largest available in Tesla’s current cars. A pack that size might weigh over a ton using current technology, so it’s probable [almost a given] that Tesla is developing a lighter, more energy-dense battery.

[The Model 3’s battery is going to be 30% more energy dense than the Model S’s battery pack … making it 182 Wh/kg, still over a ton for 200 kilowatt-hours – if the roadster were as heavy as the Model S, which it isn’t … ?]

A removable roof panel can be stored in Roadster’s trunk, which Musk says provides ample cargo room for the luggage needed for a long trip. The simple cabin design features a single display integrated into the center console, a race car-style rectangular steering wheel fitted with grips and two rear seats that aren’t suitable for “giant people,” according to Musk. [ :) ]

Tesla’s first Roadster broke cover in July 2006, and was rolled out two years later. The electric sportscar was rated by the EPA as being good for 244 miles (393 km) per charge, it could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-97 km/h) in under 4 seconds [3.7 sec] and had a top speed of 125 mph (200 km/h). [a “Roadster Upgrade” in 2015-16 extended the range to 400 mi]
“Easily the coolest alternative fuel vehicle ever made, one that proves electric cars can be every bit as breathtaking as the finest fossil-fuel guzzling super cars.”
