With the benefit of fossil fuel energy, humans (as well as their cows, pigs, goats, chickens, dogs and cats) have been able to survive in far greater numbers than other species. In fact, paleobiologists tell us that the Sixth Mass Extinction has begun, thanks to humans. At some point, interdependencies are disturbed, and we can expect more population collapses.

Oil price spikes lead to recession. Economist James Hamilton has shown that ten out of the most recent 11 US recessions were associated with oil price spikes. When oil prices rise, food prices tend to rise at the same time. Consumers cut back on discretionary spending, because fuel for commuting and the price of food are necessities. This cutback in spending leads to layoffs in the discretionary sector and recession.

I also discovered a disturbing connection between high oil prices and flattening or declining wages.

Where it comes to fossil fuel, there are enough documented cases of greed, harassment, arrest, financial-ruin, and murder to be convinced that, the oil cartel/conglomerates would only have been super-trumped, by an inventor with something so simple that anyone could build it, who cares more about mankind, than getting rich, and who makes the knowledge so public so quickly they can’t stop it.

Nikola Tesla gave us the ac electric motor, free! Survived an 1895 attempt on his life; many of his inventions and his property destroyed, financially cheated, ruined, murdered in 1943, many of his achievements are still unmentioned today.

A different example is Tesla Motors. It has already built 1,500+ all-electric sports cars, the Tesla Roadster, that travels 200 to 250+ miles on a charge. Tesla, at the Jan. 15-23 2011 Detroit Auto Show, has shown a prototype of a family sedan that will go 300+ miles on a charge, the same distance as every gas-guzzler on the road today, and fully re-charge in 45 minutes (NOT 8 hours!). It’s enough to prove that we don’t need any more hybrids, but all the other car makers keep showing concepts of hybrids that don’t even come close to what Tesla Motors is accomplishing.

Indeed, the Bush administration’s final flurry was just part of [the climax of] an eight-year campaign to gut public safeguards in service to corporate special interests and right-wing ideology. As a result of these actions, the nation’s air and water are less healthy, consumers and investors are more likely to be defrauded, food and other products are less safe, workers are at greater risk of being injured or killed, and public land is being degraded by rampant mining and drilling.

A few other presidents have been incompetent but, Bush deliberately deceived the people he was sworn to protect while he systematically endeavored to and nearly did destroy every law written to protect and defend us from disease, injury and, death at the hands of corporate thugs.
